NEW YEAR

The angst our hero is feeling is palatable. His love sickness devours any business acumen he relies on for most solutions but today is especially troubling. Lying in bed with no reason in his mind to begin the day he keeps reverting to the dream/flashback from the break-up moment. It is depression on the grandest scale and possibly without meds, he could wither and die right here. Luckily, the Tv in the background is on the History channel and there's a quote from Buddha about Oneness that resonates in his stilted thoughts. He snaps out of it for just a few seconds, just long enough to convince him to put on sweats and sneaks and do what he used to do for attitude correction, go outside in the cold and run. The route is about 2.2 miles, just enough to elevate metabolism without freezing the plums from exposure. He runs down the walk to the street and left to the two lane road that is flat for about an 1/8th of a mile then downhill for a decent stretch past the old elementary school that was converted to a head injury facility.. The road is lightly traveled so there's little thought on traffic. At the bottom of the hill is a cross roads where he once famously evaded a carfull of angry youths who were trying to chase him down for banging into their car on a freeway sudden stop. But now he runs to the start of a long incline that has a sidewalk and goes past the country restaurant that lingers despite the lack of patrons. At the top of the incline is the turn back into his development and down past the large homes that were going to lose value, the angry residents cried out, when the development he bought into was being built. Then along the loop of homes like his nestled in among trees and professional landscaping then back to his driveway where he turns with a new frame of mind, chiding himself for the self-pity he awoke with and vowing to get back to living in the world that is not the one he spirals down to in his thoughts. The thing that would make the day more perfect now is a little PB & J while cooling down on the deck taking in the vista. Hurts so good.
