NEW YEAR

We're back at Judy's and Ben is as bewildered as ever. "You have a minutiae complex, Ben" Judy offers up as if Ben has a clue what she means. "You take anything and everything that you don't want to deal with and call it 'minutia' and skip over it like a rapist skips foreplay. It's your favorite word, Ben and if you could hear yourself, you'd realize you can't avoid the big challenges in life by pigeon-holing them as minutia". Ben wanted to say "Up yours, Judy" but he thought for a second and accepted she had a point. The freedom from being uninformed is exacted by declaring no interest in the small stuff. Fly shit in the pepper. Michael Jackson/Kim Kardashian crapola. But within this dumpster of refuse, is there a life affecting decision skimmed over because it's too hard to face? Ben remembers leaving Dodge without ever saying goodbye. He had reasons but were they branded 'minutia' when they really should have been resolved? Ben gets a buzz on his iphone and looks at it and tells Judy" Sorry. I have to cut this short - I'm needed right away". Judy smiles and says "No problem, we'll pick it up next time". She knows it's a Ben move if there ever was one. She didn't even have to know that Ben programmed his phone to vibrate & buzz at that exact moment, like a girl getting a friend to call on a first date in case it's a disaster. Ben may have a minutia complex but he sure knows how to skate.
