Extracting confession. No, not making the other guy talk - extracting it from yourself. Self-learning never stops if you're continually finding yourself but there's maybe a place or two you don't want to go, a question or two you don't want to answer about yourself and here's where you need to extract that confession. Reliving mistakes made is not the solution - once you've admitted them the only remaining thing is to apologize if someone was hurt. I'm referring here to things about yourself you don't want to admit. The things all the character building haven't reached yet - they need to be extracted via confession. So, picture the confessional with the little sliding door and the mesh screen pretending to mask your identity to the priest. Only in this scenario, you're on both sides of the screen.
Forgive me, self, for I have sinned
Stop right here- this is not that kind of confessional, self
Well, if not sins, what am I confessing to?
You know - the thing about yourself that you don't want to admit
Like my poop clean-up?
No, deeper than that
That I once chased a girl around the office on a Saturday who really didn't want to be caught?
Deeper
That yesterday when I was watching the planes take off I really was imagining being on one of them
Now we're getting closer
OK, I don't want to deal with the stress
But it's not your stress
It is, because I'm lazy and content with status quo and don't want to leave my easy life
Who said anything about leaving?
I said it in my head
You would leave if the going got tough?
Mentally but not actually leave
Who then are you being true to, yourself or your life?
I'm being true to my imagined distress from having my perfect world interrupted
Is that something you admire about yourself?
I admire that for the first time in my life I care enough about where I am to worry about what it would be like if it were disrupted
What don't you admire about that?
That I'm extremely selfish and care more about my imagined distress than others real distress
Is that the confession you wanted to extract?
I think so
Any more about it you want to confess?
Just that I'm working on finding compassion that I once had that apparently has been whited out by selfishness
This isn't a funny posting today
But I needed to put it out
