The day Ricardo Montalban came to Kankakee. It was 1982, June or maybe even July and I got a call from my brother-in-law Kenneth who asked "guess who's staying here?" Kenneth worked the front desk at the Hilton Garden Inn which occasionally had a doctor or a politician stay there but no one famous. I had no guess so he blurted "Ricardo Montalban!" "Are you shittin' me?" I proclaimed? ? "Cross my heart and will spit out my dinner - he's staying in a junior suite". I immediately started thinking of him in the Chrysler Cordoba commercials with the Corinthian leather seats and "de planes, boss - de planes". I asked Kenneth if it were possible to see him and he said some studio guy made the booking, signed the registration and walked in front of him when he checked it. I said "I'm coming down after work - see you". The Inn was located off Highway 45 and I got there about 5:15 while Kenneth was still on the front desk. "Where is he" I asked and he said he was in the fitness room with the studio guy. I took the stairs and slowly looked in and there he was, all tan and riding an exercycle with a young gal, wait- it was Julie from the show and they finished their workout, toweled off and walked out to the elevator with the studio guy. I looked the other way but saw the elevator stop on the 4th floor, so I ran up the steps and out into the hallway just as he was walking into his room and the studio guy was trying to get his key to work in the room across from him. I went over to the soda machine, pressed the choice of a Mountain Dew and slowly walked past the room he was in. I could hear a female voice saying Oh...Oh in a moaning kinda way and she yelled to him "spank me again with your corinthian hand, boss" Oh . . . Oh. He was bangin' her. I was listening to Ricardo Montalban putting it to Wendy Schaal. I ran back down the steps and told Kenneth who smiled and said "sounds like de planes took off". That was the day Ricardo Montalban came to Kankakee, IL.
