Author Phil Dick (the name sounds like something you ask your urologist to do) defined reality as "that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away". If you've ever given up on love, if you said to yourself that there's no such thing as true love/unconditional love/eternal love, the surrender of it doesn't make it go away. The reality of romantic love, the kind where you are smitten, you make out alot, you are under the control of a force that keeps you from making rational decisions based on lucid standards but oh, if you ever could override them, you would end up on the pile of losers that's much too big. That would point to reality being bigger and more fateful than your rational mind can control, thank God. That's not an endorsement of doing out-of-body shit under the guise of "the force is with me". It's more of appreciation that love is so real and so available that even overt resignation can't stop the moment from happening when you are face-to-face with her and life suddenly makes palatable sense. We all need to be able to control where our thoughts end up but love exists whether we believe it or not and until you find it, you are at a Mets game having to piss so bad you're gargling and the line is bloated with beer-filled banshees and hope is davis' first name. You WILL get to empty your bladder and you WILL find love. Ergo, you succeed and you win. Life: What's the question? As I lie awake resting from the day I can hear the clock passing time away Oh, I couldnt sleep for on my mind Was the image of the girl I hope to find
