NEW YEAR

The movie is Never Let Me Go and it's about kids who are doomed to providing organs and other body parts to unidentified recipients. This is not a review but more of a capture of thoughts conjured up by this storyline. I took it to be about surgery and recovery. There was a misunderstanding by a couple of the characters who became a couple after a long friendship laced with infatuation. They believed they could get deferments from, well, donating some organ that precluded survival. But it was a myth. It was based on rumor that if the overlords of these kids determined they were capable of love by proving they were in love, they could avoid being ixnayed. My take is we believe that love will take us through major surgery because we can't stand the thought of leaving the one we love behind. This is the deferral sought in the movie. Love spares us, love raises us beyond our desperate reach, so what if the story convolutes organ farming with why human life is more divine than rock stars from Mars.
